It starts on Friday with the tavern day (opening and exchanging gifts between the four doors) and the Bandwriters. Saturday is the day of the historic procession, preceded by the evidence of the jugglers who will face the games and the Balestrieri group. And so it comes to Sunday, dedicated in the morning to the technical part of the races (weighing the carts, drawings for race orders, delivery of jugglers' names) after which each door retires to its tavern. Consumed lunch and screaming rituals, every door in the procession returns to the big square for the challenge: the race begins. At the end of the races the winning door will burn the Bastola, the ancient enemy witch of Gualdo. Having spent the moments of disappointment and discomfort for the defeated doors, the city will be a great party throughout the night.

Historical Carnival of Ivrea
February 11, 2017
To March 1, 2017
Official Website :- http://www.storicocarnevaleivrea.it
Venue :- Italy - Piedmont - Ivrea (CN)
What is Carnival
The Historical Carnival of Ivrea is a unique Italian event of international importance, as acknowledged in the communication by the President of the Council of Ministers of 27.09.1956 (Sheet No. 02999/894 File 02999/894.). A “dream” that is repeated every year, bringing, history, tradition, spectacle, excitement and solemn ideals to the streets and squares of the town of Ivrea. In this event history and legend mingle to create a spectacular sequence crossing the centuries.
The spirit of Carnival lives through the re-enactment of the city’s liberation from tyranny dating back to Medieval times: a baron who starved the city was driven away thanks to a miller’s daughter who rebelled against the “ jus primae noctis” and roused the people to revolt. In this commemoration every year the new version of the Carnival is celebrated as Festival involving the whole town, during which the community of Ivrea can show its self-determination.
The heroine of Carnival is the Miller’s daughter (Mugnaia), and at her side the General (Generale), who since the early 1800s has had the task of assuring the smooth running of the event, along with his Napoleonic General Staff ( Stato Maggiore), composed of brave officers (Ufficiali) on horseback and pretty sutlers (Vivandiere) .
Completing the gallery of historical figures are the Assistant Grand Chancellor (Sostituto Gran Cancelliere), Magnifico Podestà guarantor of freedom in the city, the parade with the Flags of the Parishes (Bandiere dei Rioni) represented by the Abbà and the Pipes and Drums (Pifferi e Tamburi).
To fill the city with colour and scents, there is then the famous, spectacular Battle of the Oranges, in which the fighters identify strongly with the people’s rebellion against tyranny.
In the battle the people, represented by orange throwers on foot without any protection, pelt oranges at the feudal lord’s army, personified by others throwing oranges from horse-drawn carts, who wear protective masks reminiscent of ancient armour.
In order to show their involvement in the event, from the Thursday before Lent all townspeople and visitors who take to the streets wear the “Phrygian cap” (“Berretto Frigio”), a red stocking-like hat that shows their support for revolt and therefore their aspiration to freedom, as it was for the heroes of the French Revolution.

Saint Orso Fair
January 30, 2017
To January 31, 2017
Official Website :- http://www.fieradisantorso.it
Venue :- Italy - Valdaosta - Aosta (AO)
In the streets of Aosta every year takes place an event that highlights the fruits of craft work of the Aosta Valley: sculptures, turned objects, works of carving, weaving. Wood is certainly the "king" of the Fair, but there are wonderful examples of stonework soap, iron, copper, ceramics, glass, fabrics and lace the result of the skills and imagination of artisans and hobbyists.
The year 1000 is considered the year "zero" of the Fair. Legend has it that all began in the Church of Saint Orso. Just opposite the church, the Holy, who lived before the ninth century, it used to distribute clothing to the poor and "sabot", the traditional wooden footwear still present today at the Fair. These days, it is now all over the city center is involved in the event, which has turned into a great moment of celebration. The two days are an opportunity for artisans, visitors and enthusiasts to meet, have a chat, exchange ideas and suggestions and come into contact with a world of gestures handed down from generation to generation that lives and evolves today , in the digital age.
The Fair is also music and folklore, an opportunity to participate in wine tastings and an opportunity to attend live demonstrations.
The symbols
The symbol of the event is the Rooster, but there are many objects linked to tradition. The Sabot course, the Friendship Cup and Grolla, the "Tata" toys and then the objects of daily use until a few decades ago: rakes, bins and baskets, barrels.
The pendants
The pendant badge of the Fair is a great souvernir and can be purchased at the banquet located at the Porta Praetoria. Different in each edition, it is a tool or instrument used by farmers and ranchers.
Even the ASIV - sculptors and carvers Association - offers a pendant for sale to the Conseil des Commis street bank. The funds raised are donated to an association of voluntary Aosta Valley.
